Fiondella - If you didn't lose so much money in the stockmarket, you could afford a good Intel-based computer.

The Aptiva doesn't have L2 cache.

So how is this superior to Covington?

...IBM Aptiva E26 --- K6-233Mhz, 32 MB SDRAM, 3.2Gig, 24X CDROM, 56K modem, audio card ---$999...

Saw it. Got it. Amazingly, computers without voice recognition can be useful! -g-

I have just skimmed some of the posts on the Covington P II.

After Reading Pain Webber's take on INTC's recient forum, I am trying to get a better understanding.

What exactly is the market for Covington. Yes I know it is >$1,00 PC,
But doesn't the P200-233MMX do that allready ?
From what I understand, Covington will preform about equal to P233MMX so why switch ?
For $799 HP's p200mmx is a great deal, and can run anygame out there now. I know that will change over time, but so will the chip @ $799.

Will covington be faster than K6 machines at the same price ?
Will you be able to add Cache later ?

Why not take the P233mmx up to 266 or 300 Mhz ?

If Covington ends up with a premimum because of the Slot one design, then good old Socket 7 will end up rulling the Sub Z.

My understanding is that only Slot 2 will be PC 100.

Last question,
Slot 2 PC 100 P-II, 400-450 replaces the PPro.
It will be 1-2-4-8 chips per system. with 512, 1MB, 2MB Cache /Chip.
This will enable INTC to enter the $1MM server system level.

With the Advent on NT 5 and WolfPack, Is it posible that 10 $ 50,000 systems could have the same capacity Pluss the benifit of redundency,
Make these systems Price prohibitive ?

I know, these $ 1MM machines will challenge the AS 600 market so there will be demand.

Thanks
Jim
