PalmPilot & Wireless Capacity

Wigglesworth pointed to a PCWeek article about wireless and the PalmPilot: zdnet.com

As for the article's suggestion that wireless network capacity is limited at the moment, I'd expect to see that clear up during this year for a couple of reasons:

1) Cellular growth is slowing, so providers are now considering data as worth bothering with.

2) Some of the wireless product coming available for PDAs including Pilot use data-only networks like Ardis and Mobitex/RAM. These networks haven't seen the growth that voice networks have, and are looking for customers.

Just my opinion, of course.

Dick

Any idea what it costs to produce the Palm Pilot?
- if they could market the thing at $150 they could shift maybe 20m units, rather than 1m, and they'd really have a platform then.
