A great many politicians have been successful in other fields. Mostly the law. Why, look at Hillary, if we can consider her a politician (and I think that would be fair). An extremely successful litigator.

Jack Kemp. A better football player than RR was an actor. Bill Bradley, ditto, but basketball. And so on...
