Michael:
I am proud to be of Irish extraction. I do not want
to be called an Irish-American. I want to be called an
American. I do love Ireland, even with all its problems.
I am sad when our people kill each other over religion but
I understand the real problems.
I have had the good fortune of going to my family in
Ireland and of seeing that country from one shore to the other.
I have done as you suggested. I cancelled my tickets
to Tiger baseball and Lion football. Never owned Red Wing
season tickets but often went. Never went to a game that I
could not get a ticket off the street. My Son is a Red Wing
faithful and still sees about every game. He has far more money
than I have. I mean, when you are single, 35, (A true Irish bachelor)
have a good job, own your own home, and have played hockey
all your life I guess you would find it difficult to give up
NHL hockey.
For kicks, my Son and a buddy of his travel around the U.S.
to watch NHL hockey. My Son has to pay his way while his friend is
a journalist and that is part of his job.
I am pleased for Sergi. Detroit tried to run over him.
Probably because he is a "dumb immigrant" I am pleased that he
is not so dumb. Mike Illitch will never meet Carolinas price so
Fedorov will be playing in Charlotte. Good for him. I would
still not attend the games. It is my small protest.
I saved your point about "legal reform" because it is
the most difficult. My estimate is that about 80% of America's
lawyers believe we need "legal reform". The politics of the
system will make it very difficult but there is an on-going
effort toward that end.
Ron

P.S. I know another American who has been offended for years by
the names he has been called. He is black and has been called
all those names you and I know about. He presently gets called
an Afro-American and all he wants to be called is an American.
I hope that our black brothers will all come to feel that way.
