Well, there wasn't a helluva lot else for him to do. At least he didn't try to impose wage/price controls, as some urged him to do. That would have been a nightmare - sometimes it's best to look stupid rather than act stupid.

David, Jeff, All, Let us not forget that President Ford did for Chevy Chase's career what President Bush did for Dana Carvey's. I'm not completely sure the economy would have tanked under President Ford to the degree that it did under President Carter, but I'd have to study their respective administrations and policies a bit more closely. And, yes, I do remember the WIN buttons. I think the first oil embargo straddled the administrations of President Nixon and President Ford, also. But that's another podium, Holly
