I don't know, Chevy's Ford was clueless but not evil. I understand that Ford enjoyed it immensely - since he was a pretty fair athlete, the depiction of him as uncoordinated and clumsy didn't bother him at all. Had someone portrayed Nixon that way, they'da ended up under close IRS scrutiny and on the enemys list.

Agreed! I think Chevy Chase took President Ford's momentary stumbling on the stairs of Air Force One and ran it into the ground. It wasn't even funny the first time around. Then somebody dredged (drudged?) up the old LBJ quote about Gerald Ford not being able to walk and chew gum at the same time.

President Bush invited Dana Carvey to the White House, largely because he enjoyed Carvey's impressions.

I think I am perhaps one of five people on the planet who did not find SNL hysterically funny. In fact, I doubt that I've seen more than three episodes of SNL.
