Let me offer that it depends. Some reservations here in Arizona have higher medium incomes than the nearby urban areas. Real estate development, casinos, and tourism have brought unimagined wealth to some.

"The Red Man's Revenge," is what we call it here, and I'm darn pleased to see it.

Anyplace the govt "helps" folks will be rundown and best avoided. Saw a documentary years ago on an Indian reservation. The area that was dependent on govt assistance was like a slum. The area where folks fended for themselves ( other side of dividing fence) was nice where people took care of their homes and had pride in them
