I've seen that same assessment - however not the first coup in Russia.
PooTin knows this, too, which is why for him the best path toward political survival is continuing the war.

And although RuZZia feels like they're on the verge of "victory," all signs point otherwise. RuZZia's economy is stuck in the "war" mode, unemployment is at 2%, inflation is skyrocketing, the ruble just passed 100 per dollar, and RuZZia is burning through troops. Not even the North Korean reinforcements can last all that long.

If Trump were smart, he'd completely backstab PooTin and threaten to escalate the war even further unless PooTin accepted a ceasefire on his terms. If that happened, I'd be pleasantly surprised.

But that depends on Trump having the negotiation instincts to do just that. And I haven't seen him ever demonstrate any.
