A .45 is a low velocity bullet and may not have exited the skull area

the problem is that the bullet would have probably exited (and made a nasty exit wound) if fired at short range. The 45 auto, which I assume is what we are talking about, is a pretty potent round. If for some reason the bullet had not exited, it would be visible on the Xray.
