<< So why did Bush and Trump run such huge deficits!?>>

Major War, Housing crisis and a Pandemic response.

Those were huge. I think Pandemic relief alone was about 4 trillion.

Biden will have about the same deficit as Trump when he leaves office.

None of the above is good vs. evil. We're lucky we have the reserve currency or we'd be trading beaver pelts. Any other country on earth would have been destroyed with those 3 events in a 20 year period

Koan,
So why did Bush and Trump run such huge deficits!?
The better question is why the deficit for 2024 under Brandon is $1.9 trillion.

Pandemic is over. No economic recession. We aren't even actively fighting in any wars. (Aid to Ukraine and Israel amounts to maybe 6% of the deficit.)

The deficit should be no higher than $600B (just over 2% of GDP) in a time of relative peace and economic prosperity.
