Elementary did not work for me, as it gets the whole Sherlock Holmes thing wrong. The point of Sherlock Holmes is that to exercise his gifts he has to remove himself from normal human befaviour, so when Elementary tries to make their Holmes ever more normal ir undercuts the entire premise. Now if the show had had the guts to show Holmes losing his ability to solve crimes as he is normalized that might have been interesting.

Kudos to your wife for the 'slapsticky' pun.

I did just watch another Irish series,Borderline

The border line in question is that between Ireland and Northern Ireland in this recent six-part series, with each story lasting two episodes. Each case involves cross-border complications, and brings together two investigators, one from each side of the line, with very contrasting approaches and personalities, and who are under fierce pressure from their bosses to provide a promotable example of cross-border collaboration whether they like it or not. The Irish one is very brash and off-putting, the northern Irish one more laid back and thoughtful, but each has their own set of issues as well as skeletons in the closet from their past. Yes, it’s the old ‘mismatched detective partners’ cliche, but Borderline manages to keep it interesting, not least because the cases themselves are interesting.

I wouldn’t say this is essential viewing, but it was enjoyable for me, not least because I enjoyed listening to all the various Irish accents on display. (Note that I am not qualified to judge whether they were accurate or not.)
