Shane and others:
Hyundai and other Korean conglomerates have huge foreign debt bank loans to
either repay or rollover in 1998. Now you as Hyundai's CFO tell your
bankers that you do not have the funds to repay the loans as scheduled
because cash is not available. Your bankers ask what did you do with
the proceeds from the sale of Symbios Logic. Your response is that
you invested the funds in a new plant in Oregon. How do you think
your bankers will respond to that ? Next, if I am the CEO of MU I am going to
be screeming to Congress that US taxpayers will be providing funds to
Hyundai to repay bank debt (via IMF) while Hyundai is investing its
available cash in new plants. I think Hyundai is giving MU's CEO
ammunition to argue the case why Congress should not fund the IMF.
