Having no position in RDRT, I look at the numbers and timing of the release as an opportunity for individuals short RDRT or with PUTS on RDRT to maximize their gains. Of course, I'm a cynic.

IBM's growth in external sales is not that remarkable, since they started out selling excess capacity to external vendors and now see it as a profitable niche to play- growing capacity specifically for this purpose. ROI must have looked pretty good.

IBM's growth in this arena should be threatening since they have the staying power and credibility to be the major player. Thus the drop in RDRT shares friday (IMO). But this is at least the second PR release to impact markets at critical moments. Note that I've only been paying attention the last few months.

IBM appears out for blood- and providing competitive products is only one of the techniques in use.
