TSO:

Yes I like this company for a couple of reasons:

(a) market leadership
(b) looks like capital additions have been proceeding at a rapid pace
(c) well-positioned to benefit from the move to fine widths

The only thing that can go wrong is if unit demand drops. But so far that's not happened in spite of what Kurlak has said. Also if unit demand drops then all semi-equips and semis are dead (a la 1996).

So I think you are right - a well positioned company in a good growth sector and their growth may be not as cyclical as the semi-equips.

Heck actually I'm not too concerned about the cyclical nature of the business when we are entering an up cycle. And though as I've mentioned before I'm not so sure the semi-equips won't see some downdrafts over the next few months [and I know you disagree strongly!] I think the sector will do really good business in 1999-2001 and perhaps 2002. So for anyone with a time horizon past the next few months I think things are looking up for the sector.

[Also as a hidden benefit once the capital additions are complete, earnings will pick up very smartly. Right now there may be some depreciating expense and no income. Can't be sure. One of these days I'll look into this company more seriously!!!]
