Janice: I'll be honest with you. I do detest Clinton and like 6 cats I think I almost detest as much the public that votes for him, and people like him, because they value a person's sincerity (as phony as it is), their good intentions, and their good looks, rather than examine the substance of that individual-the stuff of which they're made-their character . Yes, I do think character matters. I don't care if someone can make me rich and prosperous if they're a criminal and a liar. I have enough stuff , as I want to believe you do too, to not succumb to such temptation. In a way it makes me as bad as him/her if I do. Giving Clinton a free ride because he's been good for us economically is the same, to me, as making a deal with the devil. We'll all pay later one way or another. If the Clintons are liars and cheats then I want to know it as it bespeaks their entire value system and how they will govern us, the people - through lies and misstatements of the facts so as to manipulate us to acquiesce to their selfish motives (nothing necessarily wrong with selfish motives, mind you, it's selfish motives to the detrement of millions of people that I have a problem with). I'll tell you why I despise and detest this man, Bill Clinton and even his wife, Hillary. I have always had a problem with double standards as well as liars, embellishers, and retellers of history to reshape it to further one's agendas. One can make a case for their cause/agenda with the truth . It's sometimes harder to do but the easy way out is to appeal to emotions, rather than sensibilities, with lies and hyperbole. I know, you and others will say Republicans have been/are guilty of this as well, and they are/have been, but Clinton and Hillary are beyond the pale when it comes to lying and embellishing to further their agendas. They completely distorted the Reagan/Bush administration's record during the '92 campaign and still do today whenever they get the chance. It's as if they, as well as other Reagan haters, cannot stand even the thought, a concept even, that Reagan might have done something right-which he did-a lot. He made mistakes too, but I think he was one of the greatest leaders we've had in recent times. The real problem was/is he's a Republican and that's what makes liberals apoplectic with indignation. Bill and Hillary completely misrepresent their opponents positions when they don't agree. I don't mean they don't debate their differences, no, they assasinate the other's positions with hyperbole and overkill. "The Republicans want to starve school children." "The Republicans want to throw old people out in the cold." etc. etc. It's as if Bill and Hillary have adopted the style of Jerry Springer et. al. because it works so well with the quality of public we have today. What's worse is Clinton comes back a few months later with almost exactly the same bill he earlier condemned, with a few cosmetic changes, and claims it as his . Bill and Hillary, at least up until recently, have been given a free ride by the press. By all accounts the treatment of the WH Travel Office personnel was an egregious abuse of power by the Clintons but the press did not pursue the issue when they could and probably would with zest if the administration had been Republican. After all this had all the earmarks of something the evil, conservative Republicans would do, not the kind-hearted Dems. Over 900 FBI files of Republicans et. al. were taken to the WH with very sensitive personal information about these people where anyone with the proper clearances, like John Huang and Monica Lewinsky for instance, could read them. A cabinet officer of the Reagan administration, I forget his name, had one FBI file of a Dem and went to jail. Where's the press demanding the same justice today? If Nancy Reagan had made the money Hillary made in as short a time in cattle futures do you think the press would have let it go by so easily? The press loved to hate Nancy. But Hillary swears at her Secret Service detail and not a peep from the mainstream press when they're there to see it for themselves. Bottom line: I and many others like me, who voted Republican, and who saw our trust betrayed with Watergate and stood to condemn them for what they did expect to see the same from the idealists on the left. It's finally starting to happen. It's just taken too long for them to see what's been so obvious to so many others. Sorry for the too long post. halfscot
