The problem with the oil for food deal is how do we ensure
that the proceeds are used for the Iraqi people and not
for Saddam's palaces? Actually, the embargo is a good idea.
If the Iraqi people are hungry, they are more likely to
overthrow their government.

Lech Walesa(Poland) mentioned yesterday that U.S.
sanctions were a positive force in getting the Polish
people fed up with their government. Cuban and Iranian
sanctions may be finally encouraging these governments to
initiate diplomatic "openings."
Combined Tomahawk Cruise Missle along with F-18, Stealth,
and Tomcat bobmings are likely to result in very few, if any,
American and British casualties.
It is more dangerous for us to sit by and allow Saddam to develop biological and chemical weapons.

Paul,

I like your comments, with one exception. You won't get a vote of disagreement from almost anyone that they really wanted George Bush to "go in there and get him". However, I admire that he had the restraint to just do the job of removing him from Kuwait, and showing the world that while we can do most anything militarily, we showed that we didn't abuse that UN trust. I've read information and seen documentaries where insiders commented on how hard it was for George Bush to make that decision.

In any event, we all talk of taking Saddam out, but there is no open way we could do this via the UN, or even through Congress without a declaration of war and then.......it's personal.

Not gonna happen, unless Sadam gets incredibly stupid and drops chemical, biological, or nuclear weapons on Israel. Then.....he's toast.

Regards,
