Dwight,

When you get into the realm of violence all kinds of ideals, principles, and people get sacrificed -- usually in the name of ideals and principles. You may recall that before the Gulf War, George Bush compared Saddam with Hitler. But after push came to shove and the Iraqi army had been soundly trounced, Bush opted not to pursue and remove Saddam because of regional power balance concerns. The war was sold on high ideals and moral principles, but did not stay with them very long. Not only did we did not care enough about democracy in Iraq to free the Iraqis from the new Hitler, we even allowed him to slaughter much of the indigenous opposition after the war.

Comparing the personal defense uses of pepper spray by civilians against criminal attackers with Saddam using mustard gas and nerve gas against an indigenous people (the Kurds) is plainly ludicrous.

I was referring to the use of pepper spray by police on an indigenous people (U.S. citizens).
