I've also heard that for the Web MSFT is emphasizing DHTML for the Web and de-emphasizing ActiveX. ActiveX may be OK as components for smaller Windows environments?

Old news. MSFT has begun to shift away form ActiveX for the internet, selling it as an intranet tool. "Dynamic HTML" is their latest internet buzzword.

ActiveX (COM) will be dead when Windows is dead. Don't hold your breath waiting for that to occur. Regardless of the nay sayers, we have been using COM to encapsulate the various objects in our newest product. It sure does make development faster when you have a clean, well defined interface that will plug into most every major development and runtime environment on a PC.
