Reseller, Good Morning! Just read over the recent posts and must admit the tone of just about everything I have gone over is pretty dismal and discouraging, esp. the recent press coverage in the computer mags that is recounted here. BTW I remember hearing something on the financial news last week that Zif Davis is about to become a IPO and will likely generate quite a few dollars worth of equity funding for the company. However, I also believe that they said that the company was held by JAPANESE investment companies... not sure which, but a search for info on the internet might just pick up some interesting BIAS toward the new SONY drive. Am I being paranoid? Maybe just a bit!! I get magazines late down here in the Tropics, but my recent PC World (March 1998) has a rather extensive article on removable storage "A Gig in Your Pocket" by Mike Hogan starting on page 135 and running through page 150 in which they look at speed of operation, size of media, storage capacity, etc. and wonder of wonders their "Best Buy" recommendation goes to the EIDE Internal Zip Drive! The other "BB" recommendation was awarded to the Syquest SyJet 1.5 Gig. model... Jaz shows good numbers but the added capacity and speed of the SyJet won out in this series of tests. Jaz was also considered to be fast but can be tough to install and that disks were pricey. The Nomai 750 comments were" Quiet, fast, inferior manuals that can make installation a nightmare". The article also mentions that the new HiFD Sony drive will give IOMEGA a run for the money, but it also at least mentions the Clik! drive, Jaz 2 and Zip-Plus systems, but of course these were not avail. for testing.

A worthwhile read... best regards, Mel
