re: scenario stuff, etc.....

Is it at all possible that Micron took a very close look at HiFD before making the decision to launch a new model line with Zips as the only floppy dirve?

If HiFD is about to be the next Zip killer, why would Micron make such a fundamental marketing mistake? Long timers may recall that the "no box with Zip as the only floppy" was a long time bear growl. Now there are some. Will we be seeing more, or has Micron made a substantial marketing error?

Is it possible that that various posters here have more and better information from which to deduce the HiFD situation..... and the quality / dependability of Zips ...... than do the head cheeses at an operation like Micron? (if so, these posters are way under-employed!)

Even if Sony does manage to come through on time and at cost, there is still the competitor problem to overcome in getting other box makers to oem it. Unless the benefit to the other box makers substantially offsets the ammunition they will be handing to a competitor by selling the Sony drive, what motive will they have to promote it? Will Sony have to share disk revenues with oem's to motivate them to include the HiFD? With ~15-18mm or more Zips already out there when and if HiFD appears, will the installed base immediately dump Zip for the incremental increase of the HiFD? Perhaps Sony will slam dunk all these issues, but then again.........

Clik! may still be vapor, but it is hard to deny that the fog is lifting rapidly on many fronts on a continuous basis. Clik! has been described, defined, displayed, and demonstrated in increasing detail. It is clear now that the initial marketing focus will not be oem dependent. It aso appears that it is not going to battle flash head to head in a winner take all struggle. Perhaps the Zip route to oem status was a fluke. Perhaps not. Recieving the award at the trade show was mentioned here and then promptly dismissed and dropped. If IOM can win an award at a show like that with mere vapor, imagine what they might be able to do with the actual product. And, as of this pont in time.......there's been a lot more seen of Clik! than of HiFD.
