Well, I have had my own problems with tapes. Why do you think Zip drives are less reliable? Do you have a large enough sample size to say anything conclusive? (answer: no)

All these whiners about Zip reliability should just shut up unless they have some hard data to back them up.

Brendan

RE Zip reliability:

Well Rod as posted Zip is used to back up hospital lab data.
But in your case you better not remember this! You see if you ever need to get something like an open heart surgery, you might stress out thinking that your lab data may be stored on Zip disks.

Good health to you
Bob

Rod M.,

<<Tapes are an extremely reliable storage medium. >>

A statement such as this ^ shows a completely misguided understanding of storage mediums. Tape is one of the LEAST reliable storage mediums available. Tapes are subjected to stretching as the motor drags the media across the tape head.

If you are truly having problems with a statistically significant number of Zip drives and cartridges, it must be do to something in your environment.

Are you a smoker or do you work in a dusty environment?
