Hmm not sure about your thoughts about there will always be humans involved in weather forecasting unless perhaps humans having the sole role being the "weather lady" on tv which we seem to like, who regurgitate what the computer spits out, or do you mean humans will have a meaningful say in sorting through the data looking for patterns and make predictions based on training and experience? My thoughts are AI will completely take over weather forecasting, in all aspects eventually, even the weather girl will be AI generated, maybe not tomorrow but in our near future. At least that's the goal, to get humans out of the forecasting business. It will be very valuable to have a company's AI used instead, to avoid human interference. I have not noticed weather forecasts being more accurate recently, imho they've been poor from day 1, and rightly so. Short term forecasts have always been iffy and now the forecasts are longer term. There are infinite variables involved in making the weather, and old school meteorologists forecasts were maybe a few days confident , not like today's hubris when forecasts go weeks months even years out, implying to the population that weather forecasting is getting easier and more accurate, which is false imho. Accuweather tells me exactly what the high and low temp will be on July 20, 2026. Only a fool would make plans or book vacation based on the weather forecast months or years out. The average person doesn't believe the hype. Yet we're told to believe that models show to within a fraction of a degree 25 years out a certain calamity unless we give our governments untold more trillions of dollars?? People on this board continue to post our climate is on fire even though we've given the government many trillions over the last 25 years to fight it? Obviously not much bang for our buck. AI will be their tool. Getting closer to a HAL 9000 event, once dark forces are in control of weather forecasting. I have done this before and will do it again this week to illustrate, I have saved the next week weather forecast for the next 7 days, and will monitor each day as it progresses. My experience is each days forecast will be tweaked as the week goes on, because obviously it's too difficult to accurately predict short term weather but it's much easier the further in the future the models look lol. Some cities have no changes in their weather for weeks on end, it's always sunny high 28C low 15 C etc making their citizens easy true believers in the forecasters skills. They look like geniuses to me too lol. And fudging happens I'm sure. I used to work in a remote rural area and a small part of my duties was to manually measure and record weather data for the government a number of times a day 365 days per year. No one has been there since the 90's but I'm sure the station still reports data lol ghosts I suppose doing the work. Probably "normals for the period" perhaps tweaked a bit to make things look good. I wouldn't doubt it. All imho. Onwards.
