Yes, was very surprised to see 0%, but Idnk anything about IBKR. I have lowest avail at my broker (so they have told me) for my sizeable account, and it's nowhere near as low as 4%.

There might be a benefit to holding stocks in a margin account for some people, even if they don't use any margin.
One of my brokers automatically enters "sell" into an order I place. Twice recently I meant to "buy" but was sold. I soon recognized my error, and I immediately bought back those and reentered a buy. That triggered a broker notice of having a "pattern day trade". The consequences of that are nil though for me, because I hold shares in margin account and have enough capital therein to overcome a possible day-trading penalty.

I wasnt going to say anything about this but now I shall. I remember in my younger days taking a chance with margin. thinking that I could hold on even the share price dropped only to find that I was forced to sell because not only did the share price come down but the brokerage also changed how much percentage margin they would allow on particular stocks so that is an additional risk that you may not have foreseen. a lot of smart people have gone broke using margin. dont be one of them. I know at least two guys who went broke the day the market dropped 25%. yes it can happen.
