I agree except I'm a Libertarian.

Tesla EVs here in California were sold as political statements that you supported peeing in the ocean to "solve" global warming by driving an EV that got incremental electrons from coal back when they first came out.
It was considered a way to be a cool, hip parent to drop off your precious little, two legged packages at school in a Tesla before commuting as a solo driver to work in the HOV lane... thus lowering the incentive for other solo drivers without the funds to buy a Model S to carpool, the original reason we approved a tax increase to build HOV lanes.

It only makes sense these types are the first to sell. Will they replace with BMW or Mercedes EVs to restore the status symbol and keep the performance or will they buy Bolts or Leafs that are far more environmentally friendly (lighter) or buy a Camry hybrid for half the cost of a Model S and use the savings to pay to commute solo in the toll lanes?
