vepoc- Off Topic- As the largest- I think- ebroker in the biz, Schwab may get more than its share of attention when it has problems. I've used Schwab for years, and their ebroker service since a couple of months after it went on line, and other than not being able to get on occasionally (which did cost me some money- eg. during the crash last October) I have no real complaints. If you have a non-standard question, however, you do have to make sure you talk with someone knowledgeable. I had the experience of talking to droids who simply wanted to read to me from a script and then, when I was not satisfied, to pass me on to other droids. After three or four droids I finally got to speak with someone knowledgeable who apologized for their lousy service and said they had hired a lot of inexperienced people blah blah blah. I'll mention one recent experience. In an unwise hedge position, I recently bought some MSFT puts. I bought partly on the basis of erroneous historical price information provided by the company Schwab contracts to provide real time quotes (the current price was accurate). When I learned I received incorrect info from the Schwab site, I complained. They noted- quite correctly- that they did not guarantee the correctness of pricing info, but agreed to waive the commission on my purchase. My father has dealt with Quick and Reilly for over twenty years and has nothing but praise for them. Merill Lynch screwed up his account substantially a couple of times, but Q&R has been almost perfect for him. Their ebroker service may be a different kettle of fish, however. You might like to check out the various threads on the ebroker Additional Forum for some horror stories (see Etrade) as well as a lot of low level grousing. Regards, Larry
