Eric, theoretically the start-stop feature will increase wear-n-tear on the engine. That's because when the engine is stopped, the oil in the engine will drain back into the pan. Then when the engine starts back up again, there will be a brief period where the engine parts don't have good oil protection.

And yes, this is also an issue for hybrid vehicles, including the plug-in hybrid like the Prius Prime. There is a lot of engine stop and start there. (Of course, the start-stop on the Prius Prime is a LOT smarter than that of non-hybrid cars.)

I think the jury is still out on how much wear-n-tear the start-stop feature causes. Maybe that also depends on the quality of the oil that is used.

One thing is for sure. The oil needs to be changed frequently, but that's general advice for any car owner.
