I know exactly what caused that.

My son suddenly started getting D's for grades. When I went to talk to the teacher and she showed me his scores they were.

The zero's were home work. He wasn't even handing the homework in. No bother he knew he could pass without it.
The 100's were tests.

They are scoring home work at almost the same level as tests as far as the overall grades were scored.
This lets students go on to the next grade that didn't really grasp the concept.
The reason they do this is money, the school gets paid for students moving to the next grade.

it had to happen..

maybe I'm just a token of what was long ago.. old habits die hard. I still enjoy newspapers but they're so damn expensive now.
For me, I do not enjoy a 'read' on my cellphone or even via my large screen computer. It just doesn't seem right.

It's a significant issue, as low literacy can impact employment opportunities, financial stability, and even health outcomes.

.... and election outcomes.
