I remember the days when people had warm, friendly relations with their brokers. This retirement home trader probably came from the times when commissions were $100 and higher. 20 bucks a trade sounded to him like a great deal - especially if he liked the guy. These days, even $1 commissions can be easily avoided. And yet, the high frequency traders - intermediaries between sellers and buyers and market makers - are making very good money.
