I'm spoiled. If it doesn't have big mountains going above the snow line or tall Redwood trees growing in the fog along the coastal range... it can be "nice" but it is hard to even put in ranking with California. We pay for it with the politics and high costs. The beauty of the Western states, Lake Tahoe, Columbia River Gorge, California Coast, Big Sur, Pebble Beach, Mavericks/Half Moon Bay, SF Bay, Oregon Coast, Washington State, Alaska, Hawaii, etc. that I consider really beautiful are pretty special.

About 35 years ago I spent a 3-day weekend golfing with my brother at one of the Crosby/AT&T courses in Carmel, skied the next day at a resort near Yosemite and windsurfed on the SF Bay the third day after driving home. That was an amazing trifecta!

The weather is hard to beat though the wind was up and down for a "so so" windsurfing session but another great afternoon at the beach with friends.
