PiedPiper: >> They only started on the lite version AFTER it was announced by the consortium. And they are currently behind schedule on the DMT version.... The other problem is with Amati which is increasing the power rqmts. (like 8W!?!, yikes) <<

Seamans mentioned the G.lite version before he left and Westell had T1E1.4 G.Lite contributions before the consortium made their announcement. The standard isn't going to be ready before the end of 1998. The present Amati modem uses the LSI chipset and until the MOT/TI silicon solutions are ready Westell is behind schedule.

>> I willl admit that the GTE and BT deals will lend support to the stock whenever they get around to acknowledging planned shipments. <<

I'm not sure about BT, but BA and GTE are going to deploy in the coming months.

>> MZ wants to sell the baby before it has to ship real volumes because he can't afford to build them cost effectively. <<

A new manunfacturing plant that can't build them cost effectively?

>> A new Surface mount line costs some 3 - 4 mill. and the current one is tapped out plus it cannot handle some newer packages that WSTL is gonna use for LU (bad news). <<

I'm not sure what you are talking about here. The Westell/LU SLC product wasn't going to be ready until 4Q98. Lucent is going to resell the Westell DSLAM device, cards, Mux cards, etc. How does this change Lucent reselling the Westell DSLAM product? When Westell has customers for it's present solution, why retool your product line for a non-existing MOT/TI solution?

piper--

please, just provide something other than rumor. TXN and MOT have both said that their DMT chipsets will be commercially available in 1998. in addition, WSTL working closely with TXN and MOt means that integration time will be cut to a minimum.

as for g.lite, sure, we may not have something commercially availabel now, but very few others do, at least not DMT based CDSL. maybe awre does, but they are not going to win the entire market. phone companies like lots of suppliers, it keeps them honest.

your comments regarding production at WSTL would lead me to believe that you are either lying, or you have inside information. which is it?

good luck to all,
trey
