Dan,

Here is a link to the restructuring that Temic did earlier. Basically they dropped the digital IC business to concentrate on the RF/mixed signal area.

I've seen it posted elsewhere that SiGe was not capable of higher power functions. If Temic brings out it's line of power amps, it would disprove that idea. It's not to far of a jump from a power amp to a fibre channel driver.

Hi Dan !

I'm new w/SI. Also, sorry for my bad English.

Anyway, I live in Finland, in a city where Nokia has big
Mobile Phones and Research Center units. Todays local
newspaper had a story in which they speculated Atmel's
interest to build a $1 bn factory either here or in Sweden.
"close to their customers" (NOKA, ERICY).

Isn't this Temic business also here in Europe ?

I guess ATML is really aiming at digital mobile phones. I understand
that the industry has agreed the standard for 3rd generation
wide band mobile phones which allows mobile internet connections
etc. This 3rd generation is coming by 2001 here in Europe.

What do you think, can ATML utilize their "niche" here ?
