Dwight, I refuse to be force fed by the mainstream media anymore. I prefer to fill up on information by taking a nibble here and there. The Internet Buffet is now my favourite place to get my daily fill.

good night

Dwight and Surething,

I agree that the Internet is a whole new way of getting our information from diverse sources. I now read all of my magazines and newspapers online. I am fascinated and enchanted by what the Internet makes possible for us at only $19.95 per month--probably the greatest bargain the world has ever known.

However, we once said this about television bringing us live news feeds and near-instantaneous information. The same provisos that the thinking person applies to any information source must also be applied to the Internet.

As I've posted a couple of times on this thread, the Internet itself is impossible to control or police. It is global and we are the Internet. Information can be filtered at the ISP level, such as AOL and others have done. However, the Internet itself will remain free of censorship and control of its content. An ISP makes Internet access convenient and user-friendly but that's all. A commercial ISP is no more necessary to gain free access to the Internet, than is a grocery store necessary to gain access to food. A weak analogy perhaps but, hey, it's late. <vbg>

Again, if anyone comes along and offers the ability to censor or control Internet content, hang onto your wallet, and tightly.

BTW, in this exploration of media and their relevance, try tracking down the elusive V-chip technology and see what you can find out about it.
