It's not that people are not developing such machines, it's that I don't see them achieving widescale use. Most people in the world will never see one.
It is widely thought that AI and robotics will replace many workers. Do you think somebody who has lost a good-paying job and is now serving hamburgers is going to be able to afford a humanoid robot? To do what? The vacuuming?
