There are a lot of companies that would be happy to make socket 7 Motherboards for "other" chips.
Intc may be making a mistake on this one.
It is becoming clear that the Box makers want to sell Sub Zero PC's.
What is the easiest way to build a cheep box ?
Use Covington and Slot 1 / Slit 1 Mother boards Or
Use Socket 7 and "Other" chips.

Have you seen C-Nets Preformance compair of the sub $1,000.
K6 beats Pentimum Dollar for Dollar. When it comes to Sub Zeros, I think that is what counts the most.
