I think Pfeiffer's main objective is to make CPQ an enterprise heavy-hitter like IBM and HWP and hope that share price would respond positively. He probably also feels that CPQ can do a better job than IBM or HWP in controlling costs and hence achieve better earnings growth rates. He may pull it off. We will have to wait and see.
I remember, in the past (especially last year or so), CPQ and Dell would soar in tandem at every market upswing. This time (since the DEC merger proposal), CPQ seems to be left behind. There must be some explanation for this change. CPQ used to be one of the brightest stars for the momentum players.
