I'm as ignorant as the next person, but my guess is that the market as a whole is seriously overvalued, mainly because of the outsize influence of 5 or 6 huge tech companies, whose valuation, based on AI hype, looks bubbly to me. Excitement about REEs added to the recent surge. I wouldn't be surprised to learn that heavy shorting helped to turn the market down.
If you listen to the Money of Mine chat I posted, you'll hear about Chinese developments that at least give a hint about where things are headed, and maybe China's action against Nvidia was the spark for this fire (although NVDA is holding steady today, which argues against that.)
I should add that I feel good about holding mainly mining stocks (even though they are all very red today), because China and India will continue to be big buyers of metals.
