Duke beat us up 2 weeks ago.

"Can somebody explain why Cal is in the Atlantic Coast Conference?"
We can see the Atlantic from outer space? We entered a "Who can generate the largest carbon footprint?" contest? It's totally nuts.

When I was a kid, it was the Pacific Coast Conference; 4 from here, 2 in Ore, 2 in Wa, and Idaho. It broke up after a scandal, and the 4 Calif. teams and UW formed their own league, Pac 5 (AAWU), back to Pac 8, then Pac 10 and 12, cuz they can see the Pacific from the tallest mountain in Colo, I guess.

With the breakup of the old Pac12, the ACC was the only power conference available. Most stability and best TV deal...

However a new Pac12 is coming online with 8 football teams (new math?) And Gonzaga for basketball making 9 hoop teams, both men's and women's divisions)

I suspect when the ACC deal ends Cal and Stanfurd (sic) will see what the "Pac12" has to offer.

The Pac-12 is expanding to nine members, including Texas State, for the 2026-2027 season, with a total of eight football-playing members. The new league's foundational members will be Boise State, Colorado State, Fresno State, Gonzaga, Oregon State, San Diego State, Utah State, Washington State, and Texas State. This marks a new era for the conference, with official launch planned for July 1, 2026, after the departure of most of its previous members.
