But seriously. Court rulings are replete with verdicts where the law CAN dictate how a company makes its products. The most recent example? MICROSOFT. This huge corporation was of course told that they must keep separate the Windows OS from the Internet Explorer browser. Microsoft insists that the two programs are actually one and the same. One point of view holds that Microsoft should be able to do whatever they want with their products. However, "What should be's" and how reality actually unfolds are often very different.

This is why I think Iomega will lose the court cases involving Zip Patents and copyrights both here and abroad. The Sherman Antitrust Act may be invoked by Nomai. If the redesigned Zip drives (as well as laptop models) are proven to be altered for the sole purpose of excluding a competitor's disc, then Nomai has a good case IMO.

RE: Advertising / Jaz Price Cuts.

I heard the Jaz radio ad for the first time today. Sounded good to me.

Also, I was looking through the latest (3/10?) PC Magazine and I noticed several removable storage ads:

* 1 page SyQuest SparQ ad.
* 1 page Shark ad.
* 2 page Zip ad.
* 2 page Jaz ad.

One interesting thing about the Jaz ad is that the Jaz1 prices listed ($399/$299) are the OLD prices instead of the new ($299/$279). This makes me wonder a few things (mostly bearish):

1) It seems like a last-minute decision by Iomega. No mention of it during the conference call (although there was some hint).

2) Were Jaz sales leveling off (or declining)?

3) If so, was it due to SparQ?

4) How much will this affect margins? As cheap as we've seen Jaz lately, I doubt that it will have TOO much effect. I think they've probably been inching the wholesale price down.

5) How effective will the price cuts and advertising be in regaining any potentially lost market share in the 1GB arena?
