Smart Asset: The whole sector has been under stress. I am sure that you know that XLP is a defensive holding and should be viewed as such. It most likely will not flourish in times that tech excels. I (as well as many others here) are invested in the XLP sector. MY objective for this investment is indeed defensive not growth but rather focussed on stability and dividends.
If stability and dividends are your focus then I would recommend holding. If growth is your focus, there are many better options. All is just my opinion. Good luck.

RE: Any opinions on XLP?...State Street Technology Select Sector SPDR ETF

XLP is Staples, I'm not a fan of staples and I don't think it is as defensive as many believe. I think someone would be better owning individual stocks in that sector but good luck sorting the winners from the losers. XLSI looks more intriguing to me, but AUM is still very small.
