Dana,

Thanks for the lead. I don't believe I have explored Trendsetter's intraday.

No, I didn't ask quote.com why I can't use the intraday. I haven't found their support department to be well informed. I will ask anyway.

Linda

Quote.com real time java applet works on Macintosh but...

I saw several messages from people unable to run the quote.com java applet so I am relating to you my experience... I am a subscriber to quote.com real time quoting for a few months. It took me some time to figure out how to use it on a Mac and I am using the following configuration:

I tried several browsers and only Netscape 3.01 was able to run the java applet for real time quotes. But it only works if you start the computer then launch Netscape, empty the cache then launch the applet from quote.com. The applet will first download itself then it will start to run. When you see the frame of the applet, enter aapl in the symbol field then hit Return and wait 1 minute. If it does not work, quit Netscape then relaunch it, empty the cache (very important) then start connecting again to quote.com. If you have a a crash in the applet you will have to restart the computer. I am not giving any technical explanation but this scenario is the only that works for me.
I tried with Explorer and Netscape 4.0.4 and the differrent Java engine: only Netscape 3.0.1 works. Also a very important point is to allocate enough memory to Netscape because when the applet is running it is eating a few bit of memory all the time and after a few hours it will crash... I allocate 25 MB and the applet run for 4 to 5 hours without problems. I have to say that I have a computer that does only this task: running the quote.com applet. My other work is performed from another Mac so I can watch the real time quote from one screen while buying or selling from another one. This also assure me that the applet is not disturbed by another application. From time to time I experienced that when another window is on top of the java applet, the applet will not refresh its window... Last point: if you stop the applet by closing the browser window, I strongly suggest to start all over again and not trying to relaunch the applet without first quitting and restart the Mac...
