Thank you very much for you comprehensive and in-depth reply, especially RE Biotechs! Hope Shanghai Exchange would hold its horse as I am yet to set up my brokerage account for it, while I can play along with FXI in petty scale. As to politics and university, they are so comprehensive in their perspective nature. I am not sure if I could elaborate well, but I will give it a shot. First off, the rankings of the chart you posted are based solely on counts of research papers. Papers are of different qualities, which are defined in many ways. Zhejiang University, like many other universities in China, has been making great progresses in recent years. To say it is the top one of the world, even stronger than Harvard, which is greatly smeared by recently exposed systemic data fabrication by its Dana Faber Cancer Institute, is a bit overly bold. Nonetheless, I have noticed the rapid increasing number of papers in Science , Nature , and Cell from Chinese institutions, including universities, since circa 2010, with a trend at accelerating pace in recent years. Such changes for years have causes beyond politics. Just like decoration of houses, scientific researches are mainly carried out when one has money for luxurious decoration. Of course, there pops up the argument, 'The hen and the egg, which comes forth first.' Politics are more complex than what I could explain well, but it impacts on everyone of us. Thus, I will try to keep the discussion going. We Chinese have a saying, "Water carries the boat, it can also flip it.” The water carries a great degree of responsibility of what a boat floats as the boat was voted for by the majority.
