This hazing thing has been going on harmlessly for years and years but just started turning nasty in the last couple of years. How do we react to it? Pass a new law.

And why not? If conditions change, then perhaps a law is needed. What do you suggest? A death here or there doesn't matter, really it was all in good fun? I'm reminded of the horrific suicides, and in one recent case, a murder, of Japanese schoolchildren who're under enormous pressure to perform as their own society has long expected them to do. Now new laws are being considered. Why, exactly, is this wrong?
