This administration has claimed in the past to be the most ethical in history.

I believe they said they would be. Ain't been the case. But then, name me a truly "ethical" administration. Even Eisenhower had poor Sherman Adams and his vicuna coat.

This is obviously an endemic problem, and has a great deal to do with how our political system operates, and how people get elected to high office. By the time you've scaled the ladder all the way up to the presidency, your supporters, alas, have a helluva lot of markers out. You owe 'em something, and you apparently have to deliver. Political life in either party is rife with sleazy friends, contributors, and relatives. Yeah, maybe real campaign reform would help, but the guys currently in D.C. aren't gonna kill the goose that lays the golden eggs.
