True, but it is much easier (and requires no broker intervention or additional commission/fee) to transfer securities between individuals if one has the certificates.

I don't know if it possible if the shares are not in cert form to do the transfer between accounts, but it is definitly much harder to do (and involves giving out your brokerage account #)
