Penni, Amen, and it would be a pitiable world indeed if none of us had any "hot buttons".

Penni,

Democrat, Republican,
liberal, conservative--these are meaningless terms; an ideal, a program, all ultimately
depend on the values and integrity and rationality(we forget that one) of the individuals
responsible. We can only fight against our own corruption.

Amen, Penni. I really appreciate hearing your elaboration on and correction of my perhaps simplistic view of the mental health experiment. I know that "the road to hell is paved with good intentions", but even so, I suspect some amoral politician took advantage of many people with hearts like you and seduced them into accepting this "improvement" in mental health care. At any rate, I do believe many if not most were better off in the sheltered institutional environment, especially since the community mental health centers never came to be.

Now, to add insult to injury, the HMO/Private Insurance behemoth is further restricting mental health coverage. The predictable bad effects may not be provable for several years. By then, the CEOs will have cashed in their chips and will have disappeared into the mist with their profits.
