Barren Desert,
Re -- This is what I think they mean when they say "somewhat augment..."

If thats what it is, it can be very simply stated as such. They used the word augment, it means something.

Maybe Bert the clown can come up with something.. Being in charge of R&D and all he he he he he..

High On The Desert - Re: " I have news for you - thay can be solved and have been solved."

I have news for you.

AMD's yield problems have not been solved.

Did you ever think about IBM not starting wafers until Q3?

That's because AMD has to re-lay out the K6 to IBM's process which is a lot less agressive in design rules.

The K6 at IBM will be larger than the MegaFlop 25 K6 - it has to for it to yield properly.

High,
RE: "Those on this set of comments have used the term "bail out." This
implies that the yield problems experienced in F25 cannot be solved. I
have news for you - thay can be solved and have been solved. Simply
put the only way to look at this deal with IBM is to see it as incremental
capacity to F25, a filler of incremental capacity until F30 comes on
stream,"

Filler? Filler?...AMD needs filler, NOW, not in the 4th quarter...
by then they should have plenty of chips...right? FAB 25 was supposed to be able to make 65 million chips a year?<G>

Friday was profit taking. Funny how the shorts start spin doctoring
and throwing out technical mumbo jumbo to confuse the issue.

When you get down to it, its about AMD supplying K6/K7 for the popular IBM Aptiva line. Its about getting the K6 out in the hands of consumers and creating brand recognition by partnering with one of the largest suppliers of PCs in the world. Its also about cutting costs and passing it onto the consumer. Its also about wrestling just a little bit more percentage of the big pie from the WinTel duo.

Positives are that Compaq and IBM are now customers. If you were in Sanders shoes, would you turn away IBM as a OEM? Of course not!
