I believe there is something to taht, but imagine how dangerous taht would become if carried too far!! A transition to a schizophrenic personality could be a possibility.

Just now it occurs to me that I have heard many comments lately about Clinton's amazing ability to "compartmentalize" various things going on in his life. Comments like "He is able to put the Monica thing in a box and continue to concentrate on his job."

Many men have a tendency to, um, erect a barrier between their public and personal lives. Women, I think, do this to a much lesser degree. Should be noted, though, that comments like the one you cite are self-serving: his people are scarcely gonna tell us that he's going crazy over the Monica mess, can't spare a minute to think about Saddam..."
