I for one would be very interested in what you heard at the conference. Unfortunately my PLXS profits only cover 1/3 of ACTM losses so far.But I was one of the buyers of Actm at 12.5. I bought for the PSR argument you used. I used higher revenues but added in their debt so ratio the same. Also I hope to be able to sell some ACT in 30 days for a tax loss.I was asked today what FLEXF earnings would be? Did you find out any clues? I am still thinking about 2.80. I hope you mentioned ACTM as a good takeover candidate to FLEXF. I figure about .80 shares of FLEX would be fair. <g>

Paul,

You said

<<The Q ended almost two months ago; management must have
been aware of the problem shortly after inventory was
taken at the end of December. They just delayed publicly
telling us for some time.>>

I hope you're wrong but I fear you're right. As has been
pointed out, I spoke with CFO Greenlaw on 1/23/98 and
he specifically told me that he was not aware of any
untoward surprises... I posted my notes here (#412).
Consequently, I assumed the inventory shortfall was
discovered sometime between 1/23 and 2/25.

Do you know that inventory was taken at the end of December?

Even if it was, its possible that Pino & Greenlaw were still
unaware of the shortfall; e.g., if some employees were trying
to hide the information from Pino, or if Pino witheld the info
from Greenlaw (perhaps if Pino suspected Greenlaw was involved
and was investigating this)... there's lots we can speculate
at this time since we have so little concrete info just now.

Do you know when Pino (or anyone else at ACTM) knew?

Yes there was some selloff just before the announcement,
and that could have been a result of leaked info, but
it seems to me that Pino & Co simply don't know how
to stand up straight and tell it like it is... so
they postponed saying anything, perhaps hoping they
would have the whole story to tell on 2/25... but when
they didn't have the whole story to tell, they just
further postponed and only revealed the bare minimum.

If information has leaked, then somebody knows more than
we do... and they could be trading on that info right now!!

Does anyone know the current short activity on ACTM?

I just checked the EDGAR archives at the SEC website to see
what's there:

sec.gov

Nothing too exciting has been filed recently.

Just a couple of 13G/A forms:

sec.gov
sec.gov

The 1st (2/9/98) says Pino owns 5,128,318 shares as of 12/31/97.
The 2nd (2/5/98) says "Wanger Asset Mgt" owns 158,000 shares.

Plus a 13G form:

sec.gov

filed 1/29/98 says "Heartland Advisors" owns 600,000 shares.

Paul,
it seems like AG Edwards was buying all day 2/27 after downgrading the stock the day before, according to somebody (LT 95) on Yahoo messages
How would he know? Would the level II NASDAQ quotes tell you that?
I am in the process of upgrading my trading info (I use Discover since 1996), and Web Street offers level II quotes for a monthly fee. If you can know who is buying and who is selling, in a situation like this that would definitely be enlightening.
thanks
Alfredo
