Remember what technology was like 5 yrs ago, 4 yrs ago, 3 yrs ago 2 yrs ago and last year. It is mind boggling to think where we are right now and where we will be next year, 2 yrs from now...you get the picture I'm sure. Just like the new Photomask technology just revealed couple of days ago that allows chip makers to make them 100 times faster without any significant retooling of their factories.

Just mind boggling, which is in tune with the PEs of some companies like AOL, AMZN, YHOO...etc.

BlackStar,
<<By talking to him I am fairly certain that ISDN, satellite and a few other technologies are going to be fads. The big guys money is on [A]DSL or other things that use existing copper lines>>

I agree with you.
ISDN never got off the ground and don't think it ever will. They wanted too $$$$ in the beginning to implement.

Right now Cable modems are the testing rage and is implemented in places. But I worry about security. For you are now connected into one big "neighbor hood network". Also, as that "hood" gets bigger, then what happens to your speed,,,, answer,,,, slows due to bandwith bottleneck within your pipe.

ADSL shows the most promise. It would be nice to pump my data and voice over one line. And it is my understanding that it is digital all the way(Unlike ISDN). Also, xDSL would allow me to have one line into the house and thus saving the cost of two(one phone/one voice).

SJ

PS.. I have a saying, the faster I go the faster I want to go.

Yeah, but the problem is that you have to trust the same guys who wire up your home, who have their hands full with squirrels eating through lines, to provide a high tech network. It will take these guys 10-15+ years to get their act together. In the meantime, satellite bent-pipe backbones, IMO, will be the answer. Take a look at the Feb issue of Boardwatch. You can get an article on satellite cache technology on the www.skycache.com website.

<Keep an open mind (in both directions) and keep any thoughts coming.>

Yes, I don't think any one technology will dominate for the next 10 years or longer. There's'just too much stuff going on. We'll see... it's going to be an exciting time.
