Dog: As an owner of KIWT...I for one appreciate your
information. Just a simple question, if I may? Why would
the b/o/directors split the stock again & so soon??? Now
IF an IPO were in the works...that would make some sense
to - lower the "offering price"............as far as not needing
the money -this might be quite secondary! An IPO would
provide a new - fully tradable stock to use for options for
employees, acquisition, etc. BWDIK.
Thanks,
Don

<< The 3 for 1 split did occur at the board meeting of L3 held earlier this week. As to why Howell says it didn't does surprise me. I assume that either he does not know or has been instructed not to say. Although you may find this strange, remember that it is not L3 stock that split --- but Kiewit. >>

what "Kiewit" stock are you referring to? for purposes of discussing L3, only the Kiewit Class D stock is relevant. It was the Class D stock that split 5-for-1 in December. Class D (Kiewit Diversified) is Level 3.

<< You guys are talking to the wrong person. Those who have talked to her have should gather that she doesn't have a clue because she doesn't work for Kiewit but for L3. >>

again, L3 is Kiewit Diversified Group. Why do you make it appear otherwise? Am I missing something here? btw, Julie Stangl (who is in Investor Relations, not PR) has been quite credible in my conversations with her about L3 and PKS and fully understands the hierarchical structure. She also knows Kiewit's SEC filings forwards and backwards.

RE: $600Million for 1998

>>The only surprise in the information I have obtained is that the company
does not plan on issuing an IPO because the cash needs for 1998 is less
than 600 million and they do not need any additional cash.<<

Interesting.Any clue how many miles of fiber this will get them?

I had been thinking that Level 3 should be able to lay the fiber really cheaply since they should realize efficiencies/economies of scale with their Kiewit construction biz.

Last year I recorded the following $/mile construction stats from a Montgomery Securities Telecomm conference:

---------------------------------- IXC--------------QWST----------

Construction cost per mile------- $23,600 --------$29,300

I wonder how Level 3 costs will compare to these?
